Strategic enclave
Extremadura is exactly halfway between Madrid and Lisbon, making the region an attractive destination full of investment opportunities of great potential for global growth. Extremadura offers a sound base of attractive resources for investors, provided by the combination of sustainable growth, favourable export conditions and high potential factor and skill endowment that makes a difference. The region is the key to Portugal, the link with our neighbour for both Spain and Europe and a privileged enclave in the west peninsular economic scenario. Existing infrastructure such as the Autovía de la Plata (Silver Way motorway) or Badajoz Airport are joined by a south eastern European logistics platform, Cáceres International Airport and a high-speed train service.

Innovation and technological development are a priority for Extremadura, allowing the region to undertake some of the most important scientific projects in Europe, making Extremadura a reference worldwide in fields such as supercomputers. Extremadura is an ideal place, where benchmark projects on a national and international scale are being carried out, such as: The Extremadura Centre of Advanced Technology or the Centre of Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CETA-CIEMAT) in Trujillo; the Centre of Ecological Agriculture Research in Plasencia; the future Iberian Centre of Renewable Energies in Badajoz; the Jesús Usón Centre of Minimum Invasion Surgery in Cáceres; the National Reference Centre of Information and Communication Technology Application (CENATIC) in Almendralejo and the National Technological Centre of Food and Agriculture (CTAEX) in Villafranco del Guadiana.
Natural resources and vibrant culture
Extremadura is backed by abundant natural resources, with more than 20 protected nature reserves and parks, together with a huge amount of hunting and fishing. The region has the most kilometres of inland coastline in Spain and is one of the regions with the most in Europe, due to boasting four river basins and 40 reservoirs. Extremadura is an idyllic region awash with water and protected by mountains, where tranquillity and nature provide all types of leisure, sporting and adventure activities.
Nature and wellbeing go hand in hand in a place where time is a gift to enjoy yourself, your family and your friends. Extremadura seduces you with its food, thanks to excellent hotel and restaurant infrastructure, rural accommodation and paradores nacionales (state-owned hotels often housed in historical buildings) where visitors may take pleasure from the endless variety of quality, including the host of products with a guarantee of quality and origin, endorsed by gourmets from all over the world and present in Northern European markets (Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland…) and international markets such as Algeria, Morocco, Russia, China, Chile, Canada and the United States. Extremadura combines tradition and modernity, artistic monuments that testify to the region’s history host events that materialise its future. Extremadura is one of the main destinations for investment and quality, thanks to its economic growth, modern infrastructures, technological development and rich nature life and cultural heritage, which are fuelling Cáceres’ aspirations to become European Capital of Culture in 2016.
