'“Cómo conocí a tu padre” (“How I met your father”) is the title of the short film directed by Alex Montoya, who achieved the "Honourable Mention in Short Filmmaking” awarded by the Sundance jury. The awards ceremony took place this Wednesday at the Jupiter Bowl Park City.

The Spanish representation of short films at the Sundance Film Festival this year was noteworthy, since competing in the official selection, along with 70 other titles from all around the world, were "Mi amigo Invisible" by Pablo Larcuen, "Notes on the other" by Sergio Oksman and the award winning "Cómo conoci a tu padre." (“How I met your father”).

FREAK Agency from Extremadura, the company which distributes the three Spanish titles in competition, participated this year at Sundance with the support of the Gabinete de Iniciativa Joven (Office of Youth Initiative) of the Government of Extremadura and the cooperation of Marca Extremadura.

For Millán Vásquez, FREAK representative at Sundance, this recognition acknowledges the international consolidation of the agency as the leading distributor of Spanish short films. With its presence in Sundance, this agency works with aim to spread internationally, the image of Extremadura, and the ability of their companies to innovate and develop competitive projects.

The jury decided to grant this special mention to Montoya for its outstanding merit and the achievement of its narrative. “Cómo conocí a tu padre” (“How I met your father”) has won over 30 awards at film festivals and stood out in the official selection of the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival a few months ago.

The recognition at Sundance therefore confirms the director as a new rising talent in the international cinema industry. Montoya, who his awaiting the premiere of his short film "Marina" and is already preparing his feature film, has signed a contract with Gregory Shepard, who will represent him in the United States.
